Terra Sigillata is a ultra fine clay slip that when burnished creates a very smooth and waxy surface. This smooth surface is ideal for decoration, especially with smoke firing and other alternative firings. The surface will hold it’s sheen up to Cone 01 but the best surface texture is achieved between Cone 012-06. May also be used as a
engobe up to Cone 10.
Clay Art Center offers several different colors of terra sigillata which can be used to create an extremely wide range of effects. Our Classic line of terra sigillatas are made from common kaolins and ball clays Mason stains and other colorants can be added to produce wide range of colors. Use between 3 and 10%.
Directions: Shake and stir well before using. May be applied by brush, spray or dipping. Apply no less than 3 coats to bone dry greenware. Burnish the pot between coats.
