How It Works

1. Make your pieces
Work at home or during Open Studio Hours (check out our calendar for hours).
Pieces must be DRY and ready for bisque firing 10 days before firing day.

2. Glaze your work
Come in from 10am-6pm the day before firing. You may want to leave some pieces unglazed to experiment with decorating techniques such as using horse hair or feathers. An instructor won’t be present, but glazes and studio space will be available for you!

3. Fire it up
Join us for a full day of outdoor Raku firing. Pieces are fired based on best fit in the kiln. Expect to be there for the full day; bring layers and snacks!

Mandatory Items: (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • A respirator with cartridges for organic vapours (6001, 6003, 6006)

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • Wear layers + long sleeves. Synthetic materials are not recommended.

Good to Know
  • Instruction is not provided other than on the firing day

  • Participants are required to sign a liability release

  • Raku-fired pieces are not food safe or water-tight

  • We cannot fire non-Raku clay

  • You will have access to a few of our Raku glazes, however, if you are looking for a particular result, we recommend purchasing Raku glazes in advance

  • Extra pieces may be fired if time and kiln space allow

  • We recommend bringing snacks, lunch, water, an outdoor chair, and sun protection
