Learn how to get the most out of glaze with a full day of outdoor firing! Choose to build, throw or sculpt your pieces at home or during our Open Studio Hours, bring them to Amaranth for bisque firing and glazing in our studio!
Space is limited to 6 Pyromaniacs plus leading potters. Each participant can fire up to 3 pieces. Feel free to bring extras—time permitting, we’ll fire them as well.
Raku Workshop Includes: 10lbs of raku clay, one drop in studio pass, access to studio raku glazes (3+ options) & bisque firing of 3 pieces- Plus a full day of Raku firing, of course!
Recommended: Basic clay-handling experience is required, but no prior firing experience is needed. Due to the nature of Raku firing and the use of metallic glazes, a respirator is recommended. We do have N95 masks available, but if you have a respirator, please bring it for added safety. Wear layers and bring a long-sleeve shirt (preferably nothing with flowy sleeves) and pants to stay comfortable in varying temperatures.
SCHEDULE
Step 1: Make stuff!
You can pick up your clay at anytime to work at home or use in our studio during Open Studio Hours. Visit our studio for inspiration! We have Raku books, glaze samples and lots of advice. Pieces must be completed and ready to be bisque fired 10 days prior to firing date
Step 2: Glaze stuff!
Drop in for glazing on the day before your firing date during our retail hours! We will have glazes available for you to glaze your pieces. Allow yourself 1-3 hours for glazing especially if you plan to use various resist techniques. If you can’t make this time, contact us for alternative arrangements. An instructor won’t be present, but glazes and studio space will be available for you!
Step 3: Set it ablaze!
The party begins at 10am and can go as late as 4pm. We recommend dressing in layers as it may be a super warm day! Please make sure to wear/bring pants and a long sleeve shirt. We recommend your shirt not have long flowy sleeves.
